The exhibition opened at the New Bedford Whaling Museum during the winter of 2024.Roy Rossow’s exhibition becomes more remarkable when you learn that Rossow was struck with Polio as a child. Due to complications of a fall, he’s paralyzed from the waist down.I started this film in the summer of 2023. Rossow was in the middle of the project, painting these large scale paintings. I couldn’t help but fall in love with his work. It was mesmerizing watching his painting process. In the winter he returned to the New Bedford Whaling Museum to install the exhibition. In the early 2000’s the city and state invested millions of dollars to revitalize the crumbling and defunt Star Store, and move UMASS Dartmouth’s College of Visual Performing Arts to downtown New Bedford. The addition of the UMASS CVPA introduced the city to hundreds of student artists from across the globe, and transformed New Bedford’s downtown forever. However, that story wasn’t the story we ending up producing. In the Spring of 2020, New Bedford, Massachusetts, became shut down as the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the city. While the city shut down, artists continued to work through the pandemic, and provided the community with hope and inspiration.

Lanasia's PlayhouseFor 6 months, students at Diman Regional Vocational Techincal High School created a playhouse for a student named Lanasia. With only her name, and a few interests, students began planning this playhouse.Lanasia is a young girl with a serious illness. Her family is part of ‘Rosemary’s Wish Kids, Inc’ Wish House project. The project asks Career and Technical high schools to develop a playhouse for a sick child. The playhouse becomes a permanent fixture at the family’s home.I was fortunate enough to be invited to capture the construction of the playhouse, and attend the reveal. The heart warming moment was a sight to see. Emotions were high when Lanasia saw the playhouse for the first time and immediately fell in love with the home. The video and still images tell the story of the playhouse from the voices of the creators themselves, the students. It took more than 100 students to fully develop this project. The students were awarded a gold medal during this year’s SkillsUSA Massachusetts competition!Client: Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School
